According to BEP records, the beginning serial for Series 1928A should be B 197 00001 A; however, the lowest known 1928A notes have serials more than a full block beyond this point, so it seems likely that the records are in error.

It is unclear whether there is any mixing of series in the star notes during the 1928C/1928D and 1928D/1928E transitions, or at all during the 1928A/1928B transition. In each case, the highest known serial from the earlier series is below the lowest known serial from the later series; however, it seems likely that at least some slight overlaps may have occurred.

It is also uncertain whether the ending serial number 100000000 was actually printed in all the blocks for which it is here listed. This nine-digit serial had to be applied to a note by hand, since the automatic numbering equipment could hold only eight digits, and it is possible that the BEP did not go to the trouble of printing it in every block.
